Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
This policy explains how UsageGuru, operated by [Your legal name or company] ("we"), handles information when you use our website, software and services.
What stays on your computer
- Everything you compress. Logs, stack traces, files read through
compress_file, and the code and pasted material in your prompts are processed locally. We never receive them. - Your savings report. Stored in a file on your computer (
~/.usage-guru/ledger.json). It contains token counts only, never prompt content.
What we collect, and why
| Information | Why we need it | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, Stripe customer and subscription IDs | To issue and manage your license and contact you about your subscription. Collected by Stripe at checkout. | While your subscription is active, then up to 24 months for accounting and tax records |
| License key, status, monthly usage count, dates | To check your license and apply your monthly allowance | Same as above |
| Prompt text you send for an AI rewrite (the plain-language part only) | To produce the rewrite. It's sent to our server and to OpenAI, returned to you, and not stored by us. Our server doesn't log prompt content. | Not stored by us (see OpenAI below) |
| Support tickets: your email, topic and message | To answer you | Up to 24 months, or until you ask us to delete them |
| IP address | Held briefly in memory to apply rate limits and stop abuse. Our host may keep standard request logs. | Minutes in our app; per our host's log retention |
We don't collect payment card details (Stripe handles them). We don't use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking pixels on this site or in the software.
Who processes data for us
We use a small number of trusted providers, only for the purposes above:
- Stripe: payments and subscriptions.
- Supabase: database for licenses and support tickets.
- Render: hosting for our website and API.
- OpenAI: produces AI rewrites. Under OpenAI's API data policy, data sent through the API isn't used to train its models by default, and may be retained for a limited period (typically up to 30 days) for abuse monitoring.
- [Email provider, e.g. Resend or Google]: delivers support tickets to our inbox.
Some of these providers process data outside your country, including in the United States, under their own safeguards. We never sell or rent your information.
Your choices and rights
- Stay fully local. Use
trim_promptwith local-only mode, or onlycompress_file, and no prompt content is ever sent anywhere. - Access, correct, export or delete. Open a ticket and we'll respond within 30 days. Deleting your data ends your license.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Security
Traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. Secrets stay on our server, access is limited, and licenses are checked on every request. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to collect little and protect what we keep.
Children
UsageGuru is a developer tool and isn't directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and, for material changes, notify subscribers by email.
